Dare To Be Daring – #YourTurnChallenge Day 6

This is Day 6  of the #YourTurnChallenge, an initiative to practice the art of shipping by writing one blog post every day for a week.

As a child I stuck my finger in fire

Just to know how ‘hot’ heat is

Broke open a living, breathing snail

Just to see what goes on inside, within

I’m the cat that curiosity never killed

The lioness that ate more than meat

The thirst for adventure will continue for life

I’ll dare to venture from time to time

Crossing boundary lines of creativity

Breaking rules like Picasso’s artistry

I’ll dare to be different in my chosen ways

Some restrictions may not allow it again and again

But I’ll do what I can with what I have

Until it’s time to throw caution to the wind

And skydive off the edge of a very high cliff 🙂

When Network Does Not Equate Networth – #YourTurnChallenge Day 4

Day 4: Something you do well. #YourTurnChallenge

As I write this, I just finished making an introduction. All it takes for me is the click of a button, a few good words and an email introduction and good vibes start to roll, and sometimes to my ignorance, they bankroll too. All done out of goodwill, based on established reputations. Mr John is in your network, so is Mr Doe,  you’ve known them for eons, albeit on platonic levels, even say in business circles, but neither Mr John or Doe added any worth or value to you or vice versa (financially speaking) for one reason or the other but you introduce them to each other and they are the better for it. That, right there, is a good example of when network absolutely did not even add a dime to your net worth. They say your network is your net worth, so why would one have a seemingly high network and be as broke as a church rat.  What is going wrong with what is being done well. Is something not right somewhere? Are the right people in the network? Is the network not being used well to one’s advantage maybe? It’s one thing to know people, on the other hand, is knowing them relevant to your life, progress, business, career, future?.

Networking. Not a big deal. I connect.  I introduce albeit online/social media. In business, ‘they’ call it PR/Branding.  And that’s what it is when it is structured. When it is informal and unstructured, it is ‘Word of Mouth’ which is said to be the most effective and traditional mode of ‘marketing’, but which unfortunately is the most ‘less monetized’, you can’t trace the chain of who initially said what to who, you can’t track gains and losses, words are like eggs, once broken, it spills.

Guard your influence/your network

“You’ve got a great fanbase/ following, please help me share this link” No Sir, No Ma’am. My value statement and beliefs are important. It’s more like I love this content and I think it will benefit whoever reads this/listens to this within my network/target audience. What is worth sharing is worth sharing well. Quality is key.  I share what I believe is worth sharing not what friends or random persons cajole me to share, if it doesn’t even resonate with my business values, it will not be a paid for PR/Branding service.

You read in some notable influencers’ Twitter bios – “Tweets are not endorsements”, these are disclaimers that are necessary to be communicated, just in case for example, an unsuspecting individual connects with a tweet subject (just because Ms XYZ tweeted about it) and their business deal goes sour.  So yes, sometimes, network does not equate to net worth. People may have made millions on your tab, you made it happen yes and that’s about it. There is consolation in the fact that – “Give and it shall come back to you in other ways not necessarily monetarily, goodwill shared is a seed that will always bring a good harvest, pass it on, the God who sees in private rewards publicly, karma has its ways, universe bounces back good energy”..so many sayings to compensate for when network does not equate to net worth. Even the bible says:

James 4:17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin

So if not why not, if you know Sallie Mae needs to meet John Doe to make magic happen, go ahead and make that intro, they’ll thank the day you were born.  Guard, but yet be selfless with your network and expect your emotional/spiritual assets to grow significantly.  Or better still, revamp your network to see the financial growth you need. Right? Wisdom is the principal thing. Comments anyone?.

A Man Who Lived and Taught Purpose – #MylesMunroe Quotes

Yesterday, the shocking news of Dr Myles Munroe and his wife’s (and team members) death in a plane crash hit me like cold bricks.   Wikipedia wasted no time to be updated, saddening to see this as a confirmation. Dr Myles Munroe’s teachings on a life of purpose has impacted a lot of people.

“life is good so get on with it” – Myles Munroe

I compiled below some of my favorites of some of his most poignant quotes/graphics made by mylesmunroe .net  for your inspiration. May we all live out the divine purpose for which we came to this earth for and fulfill it before we leave it. ..

Rest in Peace Dr & Mrs Monroe and may God comfort yours and the families of all the loved ones lost.

“When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.”

“God places people in our paths and us in theirs that we might be a blessing to each other.” — Myles Munroe #mylesmunroe

“Vision is personal but never private.” — Myles Munroe #mylesmunroe

“If your vision dies with you, you failed.” — Myles Munroe

Share if you agree #mylesmunroe

“Before anything was, God is.” — Myles Munroe #mylesmunroe

“True success is not a project but a journey.” — Myles Munroe #mylesmunroe

“The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life without a purpose.” — Myles Munroe

“Do not wait until you are great to be great, or you will never be great” — Myles Munroe #mylesmunroe

I will continue to beautifully dream… and positively do..

Selflessly Happy Productivity

If you are on any pedestal that is limiting your productivity it’s time to get off it and smell the roses. Come down to the ground level and roll with the butterflies in the field, breathe in some natural fresh air and tumble across the hills.  These simple life tips tells us how we can live and love  selflessly while mainting a productive, successful life.

“It’s not what we do that attracts people, it’s how we think”

It’s really OK to be kind,  happy, warm, down-to-earth, modest, humble, nice to other people  even as a successful person. If you say you are not genetically inclined, (as I heard someone say) or status demands it, it can be learned as a habit.  It is easier this way to attract further productivity. Here are some paraphrased tips on how to treat others compiled originally by M.Jaksch accompanied by relevant music I selected to share with you .

1. Focus on the good in people.

None of us is perfect. We all have traits that make us difficult to live with. It’s easy to focus on what is difficult. Instead, look for what is good and strong. If you do catch yourself focusing on negative aspects, remind yourself that you too have faults.

2. Smile.

When we smile, we become mindful and step out of our preoccupation. No matter how you connect with others, remember to smile. Whether you’re connecting face-to-face, or via Twitter, email, chat, Skype, or phone,  your inner and outer smile will be felt by the person you are connecting with.

3. Let go of grudges.

Do you stew over how others have treated you? It can be difficult to release yourself from negative thoughts about how someone harmed you or made you unhappy. Such negative thoughts are corrosive and will harden your heart. So let them go and focus on the beauty of the present moment instead.

4. Be a positive mirror for others.

Make sure you let the people around you know all the wonderful things you can see in them. There is a lovely poem by Galway Kinnell that talks about this:

… sometimes it is necessary
to reteach a thing its loveliness,
to put a hand on its brow
of the flower
and retell it in words and in touch
it is lovely
until it flowers again from within, of self-blessing.

5. Be helpful.

The key to creating lasting relationships is to think about what you can do for others. Selflessly loving.

6. Be kind.

Kindness is never out of place.

Proverbs 11:17 A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.

7. Be grateful.

And then express your gratitude to God, people, in words and deeds. Everyone loves being valued.

Have a Gratitude Attitude!

JOIN THE ‘#IAM’ MOVEMENT

Hullo Friends..

You gotta stay motivated, keep the year moving with much needed positivity that is why I totally and instantly resonated with this new campaign started by Lagos based Wiz Design Artist James Abinibi tagged the #iAm campaign. There is surely power in fortifying the mind and professing daily affirmations, albeit via visual tools such as these lovely eye-catching #iAm graphics.

The #iAm icon carries within it the African Spirit. The motifs are a representation of our diverse culture and the different elements represent creativity in the authentic African culture.
The #iAm Campaign is aimed at promoting a self motivating attitude among African youths . The average young African is faced with daily challenges enough to criple every aspiration and hopes they have. Yet, we are strong willed and despite all the odds we face we are still ready to put in our best everytime we have an opportunity to. This kind of spirit is what the campaign aims to encourage; our environment does not define us, we can show the world who we really are through our lifestyle, culture and beliefs.
We believe, as Africans – whether male or female, we have the #iAm DNA in our system which enables us to achieve things beyond our presumed capabilities. We are able to create and achieve the moment we set our minds to it. Everyone of us should confidently proclaim this in any way we can; “I am Talent, Culture, Strength, Style, Hope, Love, Awesome… I am everything positive, I am everything I choose to be!”
The #iAm icon carries within it, the African Spirit. The motifs are a representation of our diverse culture and the different elements represent creativity in the authentic African culture.
“I define myself by my thoughts and words. I achieve because I put my mind to it, I am limitless! My Yesterday has nothing on my Tomorrow, I am the Future. Society doesn’t define me, Culture can never hold me back. I am whatever I put my mind to.”

Press Toward The Goal

Hello Everyone,

This article  from UCB  resonated so well with my spirit this morning that I decided to share the love. Be inspired.

Be Passionate About It
‘Press toward the goal for the prize…’ Philippians 3:14
Albert Schweitzer said, ‘Success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.’ When you feel passionate about something and allow yourself to pursue it, you position yourself to succeed in life. The majority of people in the world don’t follow their passion; as a result, they’re frustrated and unhappy. And you can see it in how they live their lives. Publisher Malcolm Forbes said, ‘The biggest mistake people make in life is not trying to make a living at what they enjoy.’ As a result, they simply endure their working lives instead of making the most of them. They live for the weekends. They try to hang on until retirement. That’s a shame, because your chance of success is directly proportional to the degree of pleasure you derive from what you do. Tommy Lasorda, manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, said, ‘The best day of my life is when I manage in a winning game. And the second best day of my life is when I manage in a losing game.’ In other words, every day he was involved in the game was a day he was living his dream. Are you? Dreams come true when gifts are set on fire with passion. The best career advice you will ever receive is to discover your God-given passion and follow it. Logan Pearsall Smith said, ‘There are two things to aim at in life; first, to get what you want; and after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second.’ So ‘press toward the goal for the prize.’

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT : TOSIN

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.  ~Berthold Auerbach

Hello Peeps,

Hope everyone is doing alright. There’s always music to make you feel a little better. Right?  The spotlight is on a very good, personal, musical friend of mine, coincidentally a namesake, TOSIN (Tosin is a Nigerian (Yoruba) unisex name, short form of Oluwatosin which means ‘God is enough to be worshiped or God is worthy to be worshiped). Tosin is a songwriter, vocalist, drummer extraordinaire, composer and arranger. He is one of ‘us’ carrying the torch of African music in the US diaspora. He is  a renowned drummer & percussionist (oh I said that already :)) former – Ayetoro band member who has played with who’s who in the industry including Spyro Gyra, Femi Kuti, Andres Levin, Jon Carroll, Antibalas, Julie Dexter among others. More on his site. I absolutely love his sound and vibe, afro feel with a touch of contemporary lacings, and his use of the Yoruba language, just like my music. Keep scrolling. 🙂

FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS – A MADIBA PLAYLIST

“Real leaders must be ready to sacrifice all for the freedom of their people.” You were a REAL Leader ‘Tata’

Rest in Peace Pa Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

Words cannot describe the global impact Nelson Mandela had.  He came, he saw, he fought, he conquered. Now he is free at last, resting in peace.A life well lived up to a ripe age of 95. He impacted the world and left a legacy. He is an inspiration to everyone.  What more can I say, blessed are those who were in his space and felt his energy, a wish of mine that didn’t come true. I grew up following SA news and apartheid happenings, watched repeatedly Mandela true story films and documentaries.Tributes are everywhere, but I am short of words, and when one is short of words, music does the rest. Here is my personal selection of 7 songs + 1 that affirm his person and his legacy. Rest on Madiba!

This digital artwork of him below was actually done by James Abinibi 2 days before he passed! A premonition you will call it. James has this to say about it.

“I woke up this morning to the news of Nelson Mandela’s death. Coincidentally, I made this digital painting of him 2 days ago after seeing the movie “WINNIE MANDELA”. The movie was about Mandela’s wife Winnie but it reflected a major part of Mandela’s life too. What really moved me to work on this piece was after I saw the part that he became President and had to separate from Winnie because of her public wrong doing but he was still in love with her regardless. Terrance Howard did a wonderful job of playing Mandela in the movie. I got to appreciate Mandela’s personality, his struggles, beliefs and the fact that he was a romantic. He lived a fulfilling life and would always be remembered by what he stood for; freedom. Nelson Mandela isn’t dead, he’s forever in our hearts. He’s forever a true hero. He’s for ever Papa Africa”

It was extremely difficult to make these picks but here goes. Thank you Nelson Mandela

“It is music and dancing that makes me at peace with the world and with myself” – Nelson Mandela

We will continue to beautifully dream and positively do…
