A Personal Christmas Note from ✿ TOSINGER ✿

Dear Friends, Fans, Observers and Well Wishers, seasons greetings tosinger

As you celebrate the miracle of this special season, may your heart be filled with joy and peace. May Jesus, the reason of the season and the blessing of Christmas, guide your heart always.
I thank you for joining me on my journey this year. 2015 has been full of valleys and mountains. I thank God for all. Notable musical/artistic milestones for me include the release of my debut album ‘Organically Singing’ in July and being an opening act for ‘Lagbaja’ at the Variety Playhouse in May.

To God, I’m grateful. To you, my family and friends, I say thank you for your continued support. Let us look forward to new connections, new horizons, new projects in 2016. It has been a very blessed year and I am very grateful. Here is a token of my appreciation, my Christmas gift to you; it is a free download of ‘Olugbala’ – a Christmas single I wrote a little while back. Download here and feel free to share.

I hope 2015 was good for you too and I pray in faith that 2016 will be better. It is my hope that in 2016, you will absolutely dominate your unique space of inspiration and influence.

(a paraphrase of words used by MsUdoak, loved the expression)

Enjoy a happy holiday season full of family quality time, friends and fun! As we prepare to enter into the new year, I wish you all a restful break and a successful 2016.

Enjoy these two simple videos I did recently for 2 songs off the album – ‘Te Amo’ and “Jiji Moji’

Jiji Moji (I’m awake) is a song to start the day off right, thanking God for life. Take time during the rush of the holidays to enjoy the things in life that really matter.

Te Amo (I love you) – Let the message and power of love latch on to your heart and soul.

Love, Peace and Beautiful Afro Music,

Tosinger.

Afrikan Keresimesi (#Christmas) Carol @Tosinbeats @Tosinger

This blog post is following my writer friend Malaka‘s comment  saying — I’m the only person she knows who has vehemently insisted there are Christmas carols written and sung in Yoruba (my native language from Southwestern part of Nigeria) — 🙂   And there are really, traditional ones and one I incorporated here ‘Olugbala’, an original I wrote in 2012.  However, in this post, I am sharing a homely informal spontaneous recording of a composition of my musical brother ‘Tosin’ who I’d spotlighted sometime ago on the blog . He did a quick fly by Atlanta a couple of weeks ago.. and we decided to do an impromptu acoustic recording of a Yoruba ‘Owambe’ (party vibe) Christmas Song he wrote.

Here’s wishing you all a fantastic Christmas filled with love, joy , peace and everything Jesus the reason for the season brings. Enjoy and share!

Tosin says:

Live at Strathmore

I grew up in post-colonial Nigeria, but the residue of colonialism was still palpable enough to have some impact on the post-colonial kids. For instance, I had British teacher in elementary school, and a British principal in high school. So we kept to some “oyinbo” (Caucasian) mannerism. However, I was able to, and still, blossom in my African way of life through enculturation fostered by my parents and my surroundings. And my musical direction is a reflection of this way of life.
With that said, I recently thought about doing an Afrikan Christmas Carol. Not that some African composers have never written some before, but I realized that we just repeat the same ol’ ones. So, on Wednesday morning (Dec. 10), the Heavens blessed me with a new composition. It was a few hours before my flight to Atlanta. And on getting to Atlanta I decided to do a quick collaboration with my Nigerian sister also called Tosin. The style of music I employed for this song is called Owambe.

  Hope you enjoyed it!

A Project Highlight of 2013

Hello Everyone,

Countdown! Countdown!  to the season’s festivities – Christmas, coming New Year et al. I know everyone’s getting busy busy busy. A friendly reminder of the essence of the celebrations – love & kindness, peace and joy, the ultimate gift of salvation from the reason for the season – Jesus! And as we climb the stairway of life, I pray it’s upward ever, backward never.

As a Creative Arts Consultant, I get to be involved with quite a few fun  and interesting projects (many people have wondered what I do professionally, apart from my artistic talent of singing/songwriting so this should clear that air, see right section for more info) and this year, a particular project was one of the highlights.  A pioneering,  phenomenal, history making project where I got to use practically almost all of my skills. 🙂 It was an experience. I was on board the team as a PR/Event Promotions Consultant ( My company Dreamweavers Entertainment) and as a Vocalist for the production of ‘Wedlock of the gods’, a play written by Nigeria’s first female playwright – the late Dr Zulu Sofola. The first of its kind in the US diaspora and a forerunner for more to come, an authentically African stage play, directed by New Nigeria Cinema & Nollywood’s Wale Ojo took place May/June 2013 in Atlanta. Thanks to Zulu Sofola Productions and Chi Ife Productions for making this possible.

Thanks to my friends at KokoAtDawn Productions who recorded these behind the scenes ‘mini doc’ clips of the journey of the production. Watch below.

SUREGIFTS – Redefining Gifting in Nigeria.

Hello Friends, hope the weekend started off well. I’m excited to hear about SureGifts, a gift card company that launched in my motherland of Nigeria.  Nigerians can now buy gift cards for loved ones with ease. Also, with me in the diaspora and family in Nigeria, it’s a great and secure way to send gifts to loved ones for the holiday season. How innovative! So this is how it works. It’s a one-stop shop. You ‘gift’ gift cards to loved ones and they redeem it directly from the merchant, e-copy or hard copy.

Sometimes, words are not enough to express just how much you celebrate, appreciate, regard or love someone. At Suregifts, they make the art of gifting simpler but richer.

So “Let’s say you’re in VI and you need a replacement phone asap and out of cash? Check your email. I just sent you a Samsung gift card”

“I’m getting married? I don’t want a thousand kettles. Buy me a generic Suregifts gift card and I can shop wherever I want”

“I am in the diaspora, it’s my mother’s birthday in Lagos. I buy her a Suregifts card online, send her the confirmation, she picks up her birthday gift from the vendor”

You can buy a 50K Mothercare gift card for someone and send it to their email or have them send a printed version. They walk into Mothercare store and shop. Simple. It’s an online gifting hub, avoid the crowds, avoid the rush, give the right gifts.

Never expires!

Still not sure how SureGifts works? Watch the promo video:

In a nutshell:

For the sender, we offer the luxury of convenience. You don’t have to struggle to figure out the most ideal gift; neither do you have to go through the hassle of picking it up, wrapping and delivery. It’s all in a click of a button. For the recipient, get ready to free your storage room of un-preferred gifts. We know it’s the thought that counts, but it won’t hurt getting that thing you’ve always wanted instead!

Gift Cards from Suregifts are sent with love. They can be personalized with special messages and delivered just in time to ignite the widest smile. You can have it delivered to the recipients’ e-mail or physical addresses, and they can redeem at your selected vendor or anywhere Suregifts Cards are accepted. What’s more? Prices are usually cheaper on Suregifts than in-store, and Suregifts Gift Cards don’t expire!

Earth Shift – Egypt’s First Snow in 100+ Years & Some Music

Brrrrrrrrrrr…

It’s a rainy day in Georgia BUT it’s been snowy for the first time in a long time in the African country of ‘Egypt’. The snow that has blanketed much of the Middle East turned Cairo white on Friday – with local news reports claiming it was Egypt’s capital’s first snowfall in 112 years.  Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock, some of the holiest sites for for Jews and Muslims were covered in snow yesterday. Early snow has surprised many Israelis and Palestinians as a blustery storm, dubbed Alexa, brought gusty winds, torrential rains and heavy snowfall to parts of the Middle East. (AP (The Associated Press) .

As you and I know, the main reason why large portions of the continent are hot (tropical or desert) is because large sections fall across the equator, as well as two very large sections that fall within the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer. This means (in general) the continent has a very high exposure to sunlight, more so than countries in the northern hemisphere (e.g. Europe) so it’s either hot or dry or wet with rainfall in Africa in general. So this is some shocking NEWS that a part of Africa can not only dream of but see a white Christmas after all… let’s see what explanations environmentalists and scientists will have for this, I daresay, it could be a spiritual earth shift, maybe?.ha!

Emmanuel 2013

♫ It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas ♫

Thanking God for the gift of his son ‘Jesus, Our Savior’ (‘Our Olugbala’  in Yoruba)  as we celebrate another Christmas, we must all remember to focus on the reason for the season – ‘Emmanuel ~God With Us’. Thanking God also for the gift of music and for blessing ‘Yours Sincerely’ with the gift of ‘Voice’. 🙂  I am particularly honored and blessed  to be continually recognized over time and afforded diverse platforms of expressions to share my talent. I love Christmas carols. As a teenager, I caroled with groups in my neighborhood and loved every moment of it. I sang with my Grandma in Catholic church choir and also witnessed various cathedral type music concerts. I believe these experiences contribute to my place on a larger stage today.

Afro /African, Folk, Jazz, Soul, Gospel, NeoSoul, Gospel, Reggae,I sing ’em all , well maybe not ‘Hip-Hop’ lol but I will be swimming in a not regularly chartered waters this coming Sunday, on an operatic and classical  note 🙂 as I appear as a Guest Soloist on the classic version of a song ‘Ise Oluwa’ which is also on my AfroSpire Demo project here . So if you are based in Atlanta, come out to the Emmanuel Cantata 2013 organized by The Maboush Group. Its a formal dress code event and its FREE with registration here

Hope to see you there. Come see your ‘Dreamer Girl‘ climb some glorious notes 😀
